Makani Duhaylonsod headed to…

July 10th, 2008 by Dave Vinton

You never know who you’ll run into at a restaurant in Mililani.

But I’m glad that I went to Chili’s last night. Besides getting a great burger. I got a big of great news on the side. (Get it? Cheesy play on the food theme. Wait cheesy is another tie in…smile.)

According to a family member of Makani Duhaylonsod - Makani is headed to the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Evidently the all-star pitcher really wants to try and win at the D1 level.

All the Hawaii schools wanted this talented four-year starter for Mililani. My source was also part of a strong push from Chaminade to get her to be a Silversword. But the D1 status and great success of Bob Coolen’s squad sealed the decision on where to play next.

Here’s wishing the best to Makani, her family and friends, as they all go on to a new ballgame.

P.S. To my “source” - awesome job! Food and conversation. :)

  2. Kakaroachie:

Sorry, but I strongly believe she’s going to Eastern Arizona. I’ll be you a bowl of enchilada soup from Chili’s.

  3. Dave Vinton:

    Hey K-roach,

Hmmmm…could be an admissions issue. I’ll check my source again and see if something has changed.

Thanks for stopping in and sharing some info.

As for the soup…it’s always fun to talk sports over food…even if I gotta pay…or not…smile.

  4. Kakaroachie:

Chaminade had a great push because her cousin plays there too. Though this may not be factual, I heard Coolen gave Makani a call about a year ago after the Fireworks tourney. Dunno what the conversation was about. She then turned a scholarship down from Midland TX….thinking UH was the one. A second call from Coolen never materialized. Then came the announcement of signing Sarah Robinson. Eastern Arizona seems to be the pick now. And like I said, this is just hearsay.

  5. BeenThere:

Makani has had about 3 calls from Coolen this year, Bob Coolen even gave Makani a tour of the UH Manoa campus on June 25th, 2008 Also he attended the 18U States Tourney to give Makani a packet. But hey who knows maybe she’ll go to Chaminade and reunite with her cousin…bring out their Trojan Power for the Silverswords…….like I said who knows.

  6. Cane:

I found out Makani turned down 5 colleges while at a Colorado tournament because she wants to go to UH.

  7. BeenThere:

    Hey Dave,

Well from what I was told, Makani is not going to Eastern Arizona or any JC College because she qualified for D1 school and her heart was set on UH Manoa and it looks like she wont be playing ball with her cousin at Chaminade either because Makani will be a UH Rainbow Wahine on the softball team. So Good Luck Makani, you go girl!
